Civil Appeals and Appellate Representation in Ohio

A decision in a civil case can raise difficult questions about what comes next. An appeal calls for a focused review of the decision, the case record and the issues that may be raised.

Jeckering & Associates, LLC offers civil appellate representation for plaintiffs from offices in Columbus and Mechanicsburg. Contact us to discuss a civil decision you want reviewed or an appeal challenging a judgment in your favor.

A different stage of the case

An appeal generally involves review of the existing record and claimed errors, rather than a new trial with new evidence. Written briefs explain the issues and the parties’ arguments. Some appeals also include oral argument.

Careful appellate work starts with identifying the decision under review, understanding the applicable rules and connecting each argument to the record. Whether a decision can be appealed, and which issues may be considered, depends on the particular case.

Start with the decision and timing

When you contact us, identify the court, the case number, the date of the decision and any notices or scheduling orders you have received. Let us know whether you already have counsel and whether an appeal has been filed.

Appeal deadlines and procedural requirements need prompt, case-specific review. An inquiry to a law firm is not a court filing. Do not assume that contacting us extends a deadline.

What should I have available?

Have the decision or order, relevant court papers and any information about transcripts available for discussion. You do not need to identify every possible legal issue before asking whether we can help. Please ask how to provide records before sending confidential material.
